About Us
My name is Ken Larson. I have worked as a freelance trumpet player for the last 26 years in the Los Angeles area. Out of necessity, 15 years ago I began modifying trumpets under the tutelage of Bob Malone. My goal was to build a trumpet that worked in the widely varied freelance environment. I found myself carrying around 2 B flat trumpets and 2 C trumpets on a daily basis to cover the variety of work I'd encountered in Los Angeles. I needed a horn that could work well in a symphony orchestra yet be delicate enough to play in a Brass Quintet. It had to be broad and dark yet at the same time be able to focus and get bright enough to get on tape or play a Broadway show.
I found the answer to be a balanced flexible design that has been tested and refined for the last 7 years. Every trumpet is a compromise, I won't tell you what you need but instead I will listen to your needs and try and get a good "fit". BrassWerks strives through ongoing research and development to make the best products on the market today.
My background includes Studio work for major motion pictures, television and radio as well as the Los Angeles Opera, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, "Extra" Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Diego Symphony, 5 years in the pit playing Broadway Shows, Jah B One (reggae Band), various Big Bands and Rock and Roll acts. Currently I am the Trumpet Instructor @ Interlochen Arts Academy as well as Principal Trumpet for the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, Co-principal Trumpet for the Traverse City Symphony Orchestra and owner of this fine establishment - Ken Larson's BrassWerks.
